About Us

Stories of Girls’ Resistance is a multi-year, multi-site project spanning regions, organisations and offerings with many contributors and co-conspirators. Leading the work in each region are Story Curators who are deeply embedded in movements and girls’ work.

It is at the heart of girls’ resistance that we can begin to build hope to challenge and build a world where gendered injustice can truly be left in the past. Today hope is in reflection and storytelling. For too long, we have tackled challenges facing women as women’s issues, overlooking how women got to where they ended up. By constantly meeting them where they ended up, we have overlooked the girls that turn into women and miss opportunity after opportunity to begin to truly help. Strategies need to be implemented to prevent women from ending up where they end up by helping them be the girls they need and needed to be to save themselves. And to save us all.

There is still a need for greater representation at all levels of leadership. In a global world where 1 in 3 girls and women experience some form of violence, I remain optimistic that stories like these will aid in shifting the narrative that girls and women are inferior; build solidary among girls, women, and allies; and amplify the need for a safer and more productive region.

Stories are also ways by which we evaluate things which are not recognised by dominant institutions and power structures. I think this is especially the case for most people of colour, that stories, oral or written, are very important… I think stories connect people… when minds and hearts are opened, stories shift people and their thinking, and people shift institutions. Stories have the power to really move things.
